Stonecraft Atelier · Bay Area
Stone and tile, set by hand, for the homes we set them in.
A six-project-per-year studio in the Bay Area.
We take six to ten commissions a year, each through long-standing referral relationships with eight Bay Area architecture firms. That constraint is intentional: it lets us give every project the attention it requires and keeps our work at the level of craft, not production.
Four materials. Chosen for longevity, not trend.
Carrara marble
The calcitic white of the Apuan Alps: consistent veining, low absorption, and a surface that develops character over decades of use rather than wearing down.
Soapstone
A metamorphic dark grey that shrugs off heat, acid, and impact — ideal for working kitchen surfaces and substantial exterior applications where marble would be inappropriate.
Terrazzo
Ground aggregate bound in cement or resin, polished flat. Every installation is one of a kind because no two pours produce the same pattern — an honest material that makes no attempt at uniformity.
Limestone
Sedimentary and warm, its surface holds tool marks and ages into a patina that polished stone resists. We specify it for entry floors, bathroom surrounds, and terraces where softness is welcome.
1
Site visit & measure
We arrive on site, read the space, and take precise measurements before any material conversation begins.
2
Material specification & sample review
We present options that suit the project, not a catalog. Full-size samples are reviewed in context, in your light.
3
Installation
Our crew is our own. No subcontractors, no handoffs. Every cut is made by the same hands that prepared the specification.
